Transylvania Weather
Medieval castles, mountain trails and cool summers
Transylvania sits in a plateau surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains, giving it a cooler, wetter climate than the rest of Romania. Summers are pleasant (22–26°C) and winters are cold with reliable snow.
Best time to visit
May–June and September–October for hiking and castles; December–February for skiing at Poiana Brașov.
Worth knowing
July–August if you dislike heat (though milder than Bucharest). Mid-winter driving can be challenging.
